Newsletter January 30th – February 10th, 2017

Hello Pre-K families!

We have had a great FULL week back at school reading more Fairy Tales, doing more awesome projects, and even performing scenes from our favorite stories using puppets and masks that we created ourselves! We also continued our letter study and now have O and P under our belts! Next week we will be talking all about friendship. Please remember we will NOT be celebrating Valentine’s Day, but we will end the week with a special “friendship” party that the class earned with 25 stars! The letter of the week will be Q.

                        Thanks & Reminders

Thank you to Anika and her family for providing last week’s snack! Thank you to Mirabel and her family for bringing this week’s! And a big thank you for the sweet flowers we received. We love them!

                                                            Star Student Interview

Zulia was our Star Student of the Week. Zulia says she has brown hair and blue eyes. Her “favorites” are as follows: Color – purple & golden. Number – infinity. Book – M&M’s Grown Up. Movie – Frozen Fever. Animal – wolves and kitty cats. Toy – Wolf-Pup. Food – chicken nuggets. Dessert – all of them. When Zulia grows up, she wants to be a doctor and a nurse. If she could have three wishes, they would be: 1.) To be magic with a real magic wand  2.) To have a real globe  3.) To have a crystal ball.

On Monday we began our Fairy Tale unit by reading, Goldilocks & The Three Bears, Three Snow Bears, and Goldilocks & Just One Bear. We also worked hard on Star Student pages for Zulia and came up with some great compliments for her! For share, Bianca brought “O” from the movie Home and said he has an O on his belly, Katelyn showed off her owl “Hatchimal,” and showed us how he moves and sleeps, and Sarah brought in a baby named, Mole that he mom made for her. We also had the pleasure of Music & Movement with teacher Emily in the afternoon.

Tuesday we read, Jack & The Beanstalk and did an adorable collage of beanstalks going up to the castle in the clouds. They are now hanging over the coat racks in the classroom. For share, Anika showed off her hand-knit octopus that her Grammy made for her, Aviana and Elli brought in their stuffie named, Olaf from the movie Frozen, Rory shared his book called, On The Go, and Kellen chose octopus from the O pocket and said that they live underwater for a long time and they have eight legs. In the afternoon, students had a chance to perform a variety of scenes from our favorite Fairy Tales. This was extra special due to the cardboard castle we performed in!

Wednesday morning was spent working on birthday pages to celebrate Zulia’s half birthday. Then after morning circle we read, Goldilocks and The Three Dinosaurs. This was a very silly rendition of the classic tale of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. The kids found this tale to be quite amusing! After our first outside time we came back to the classroom to do some share. Gabe brought in two books: Competition in The Ocean and How To Hide an Octopus, and showed us his favorite pages, and Lucas chose the octopus from the share pocket and told us they like to swim. In the afternoon, we worked on letter O pages and made Goldilocks and The Three Bears puppets. We finished the day with snack and a nice long recess.

Thursday is always an awesome day as we get our weekly trip to the gym! There we played, Tunnel Tag and “Hit The Road Jack.” For share, Camille chose the open door from the share pocket and said, “when I go outside, I go through a door.” Zulia also chose the open door from the pocket and said that open starts with O, Severin chose oven from the pocket and said that he wants to make muffins in his oven at home, Ruby chose the orange from the share pocket and said that she loves orange juice and that oranges have peels, and Mirabel chose the ox from the pocket and said, “My dad found an ox before, and once I went to a farm and fed an ox.” Later we read, The Three Pigs and The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs and made fun headbands that we could wear while performing skits! The students had their choice between making a pig headband or a wolf headband. We finished the day by packing up and reading Zulia’s Star Student book and interview.

Friday – (another) SNOW DAY

Tuesday we read two versions of Princess and the Pea, and did a fun related project by coloring and cutting out the princess, gluing mattresses on top of a pea, and writing how many mattresses we chose to use. They turned out great and are hanging on the west wall of the classroom. For share, Ruby brought in her pink, “pee-wee” pillow pet and told us that she is going to see and meet Peppa Pig in Peppa Pig City, Bianca shared her Power Puff girl who was wearing a pink dress and a pink ribbon, and Kellen chose pepperoni pizza from the share pocket and said that his brother Luke loves pizza. Later in the day we had the pleasure of learning a new song called, “I Love The Mountains.” The class learned the lyrics so quickly! It was really impressive!

Wednesday we read, Three Billy Goats Gruff and started coloring and cutting out the characters from various scenes in the story so we can put them in sequence. For share, Anika showed off her Star Wars coloring book and showed everyone the Princess Leia page that she is working on, Rory brought in his stuffed pink pig and said that he likes to go to farms and see pigs roll in the mud. Severin brought in two Pokemon cards because they start with P, and he said he likes to watch Pokemon videos. Mirabel shared a penguin puzzle piece with pink on the backside, and Katelyn showed off her pink dress that her “Mimi” sewed for her.

Thursday morning we had an extra special time in the gym with Mr. Barnes. We got to play with the giant parachute! We made waves, bounced balls high into the air, and even made a giant tent that fit all the students and even the teachers! It was pretty fun in there! After gym, we came back to the classroom and did share. Alex chose pear from the share pocket and said, “they are very wet,” Vaughn shared his cute stuffed puppy named Peter, who has paws and his favorite food is popcorn. Camille showed off her pink water bottle with pineapple sparkling water in it, and Avi chose the pig from the share pocket and said, “They are pink and they like to play in the mud.” After that we read a fun book with many characters from other Fairy Tales in it called, Three Silly Billies. The class discussed the recurring theme of “three” in many tales we have read. Ask your child if they can name some for you! Later we read another fun tale called, The VERY Little Red Riding Hood, which the class loved! For our project, we colored, cut out and assembled little books with the lyrics from the song, “I Love The Mountains.”

On Friday we had a leisurely free choice with suds and bottles in the sensory table, and many kids built some pretty awesome marble tracks. When it was time for an announcement for the class, everyone stopped, looked, and listened, which earned us our 25th star! Go Pre-K! We did a silent cheer and a “firecracker clap” to celebrate! For share, Charlie brought a pencil, Aviana chose the pumpkin from the share pocket and said she likes to eat pumpkin seeds, and Elli chose pan and pizza from the pocket and said she likes to cook pizza in a pan. Just before lunch, we read Rory’s Star Student interview and book that the class made for him. After rest time, we used Sharpies and watercolor paints to create our very own castles! They look fantastic! We also read another version of, Puss In Boots as well as Peter & The Wolf. We ended the day by packing up and generating ideas about our upcoming party that we earned!

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!
