Hello, Pre-K families!
It’s been a short but sweet week here in Pre-K! We have been talking all about gratitude and the special things we have in our lives! Next week we will continue with the second week of our cooking unit! If you have signed up to bring in supplies for dirt cups and personal pizzas, please bring items in by Tuesday morning. Our letter of the week will be I. Please help your child choose one item for share that begins with I.

Monday we kicked off our short week of gratitude by holding another circle where everyone exchanged compliments. Then we read a great story called, Bear Says Thanks. This was a perfect story to celebrate gratitude, friendship and politely saying thanks when someone gives you something or does something for you. Bear is hungry and lonely in his cave, and one by one his friends bring him food and treats. After each donation Bear says, “Thanks,” and they all enjoy a big feast! Then at the end of the meal, a collective and even bigger, “Thanks!” Later in the afternoon, we practiced letters A-H in our journals and then rocked out on the carpet with some Music and Movement! We finished our day playing games with Teacher Mike!
Tuesday after a fun morning of free choice, we circled up and read a classic by Shel Silverstein called, The Giving Tree. Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk, and the tree was always happy to oblige. But as the boy grew older, he began to want more from the tree, and still the tree gave and gave. This touching story offers a variety of interpretations when it comes to giving and receiving love. For our special project, we made our own giving tree with leaves of gratitude! Come check out the tree to see what your child is thankful for! In the afternoon we played “Bug Under the Rug” and then danced to a Pre-K favorite, “You’re Welcome!” (From Moana). Then we finished our day with some recess before we said our goodbyes!
Wednesday morning, we met on the carpet to read another fantastic story, Jillee Bean and the One Good Thing. It’s the story of a dad that teaches his daughter all about serving others by doing “one good thing” at a time. This was a perfect story to conclude our short week of gratitude, and we decided that as a class we will make our own jar full of good deeds! When our jar is full, we will have a cookie party to celebrate! The class thought this would be a great idea! After rest time we enjoyed some great songs on the carpet like, “Let’s Go Swimming” and “I Know a Chicken!” After that we had a nice long free choice full of all the thrills room 111 has to offer! Then we packed up for the long weekend and headed out for the last recess of the day!
Have a lovely Holiday weekend, everyone!
