Irvington Pre-K Newsletter
Hello, Pre-K families!
It’s been so fun this week reading all of tongue twisting classics by Dr. Seuss! We also did some fun Seuss-like activities and projects too! Next week we will turn our focus towards Art, and the letter of the week will be Ss. Please help your child choose something for letter share.
Thanks and Reminders
Thank you to Enzo and his family for bringing the delicious and nutritious snack this week. Next week Elise’s family will be providing snack.
Person of The Week
Saoirse was our Person of the Week. She says that she has blonde hair and blue eyes. Her “favorites” are: Color – Pink and purple. Number – 5. Book – Moana. Movie – Boss Baby. Animal – Unicorn. Toy – Leo (her stuffed lion). Food – Pizza. Dessert – Gummies. When Saoirse grows up, she wants to be a superhero! If she could have three wishes they would be: 1.) To have a fairy. 2.) To be a mermaid. 3.) To be a ballet dancer.
On Monday, we kicked off our Dr. Seuss week by listening to, Horton Hears a Who. What a great story for this age group! The underlying theme of the story is that a person is a person, no matter how small and just because you can’t see, touch or hear something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. For the related project, we used painted handprints upside down to create elephants holding a clover. They are so cute! Stay tuned for their wall debut! For letter Rr share, Carter brought in a picture of his sister riding a horse, Havana shared a heart shaped rock and Uriah showed off some rocks that he collected at the beach. Our day ended with recess outside, followed by free choice.
Tuesday after we broke off into small groups we read, The Cat in The Hat. The students listened intently as that tricky cat stirred up trouble for the two kids that were home on a rainy day while their mother was away! At the end of the story, the students were asked if they would tell their parents about the cat, Things 1 and 2 and all that went on that day. We have such a great bunch of kids! They all said they would tell the truth. Go, Pre-K! For the related project, we made Cat in The Hat and Thing and Thing 2 popsicle stick puppets. For letter Rr share, Saoirse showed off a rock, Alexander brought in a rose and Audrey D. shared her rainbow magnet. In the afternoon we got to work on Person of the Week pages for Saoirse, using at least three colors to make each picture look extra nice! Everyone dictated the kindest of compliments about her too. We finished our day with a healthy snack and then free choice!
Wednesday during group time we read, hop on Pop and talked about rhyming words and then played a rhyming/matching game to follow. For letter Rr share, Bayard showed off a rattling rabbit, Mila brought in some rice and Kellen shared his stuffed cougar because he says, “Rarrrrrrr!” Then just as we were getting ready to head out for recess, we had a fire drill! The class did an amazing job of exiting quickly and quietly with their eyes facing forward and wowed again with their quick response during roll call. In the afternoon we read, The Cat in The Hat Comes Back, and saw even more trickery from that silly cat and all of his friends in tow.
Thursday we read, 1 Fish 2 Fish Red Fish, Blue Fish during our group time and sorted colored goldfish during snack time. Then in the afternoon, we did another fish sorting activity that involved putting the different colored fish in their corresponding bowls and finished with counting each of them. For letter Rr share, Matilda brought a drawing of a rose that she made with her mom and Eliah showed off a picture of a rose that said, “Portland, The City of Roses.” In the afternoon, we boogied on the carpet to the popcorn song and then went outside for recess and had a healthy snack before going home for the day.
Friday was such a fun day! Everyone got to wear their pajamas and the whole day was dedicated to the 114th birthday of Dr. Seuss! We colored and cut out what felt like a million birthday candles and glued them onto our giant birthday cake for the beloved author. Then we circled up and read, Happy Birthday to You! What a mouthful that was! For our special morning snack, everyone enjoyed a nice helping of green “eggs!” And given all of the empty plates at the end of snack, it appeared everyone loved the tasty treat. Ask your child what they thought of it! For letter Rr share, Evelyn brought in rice, a recipe and rocks, Effie brought in a ring that her daddy found at the beach, Audrey M.W. showed everyone a picture of her friend, Rowan, Luke showed off his red bird and Alex H. shared some race cars. After rest time the class enjoyed their special day to choose the music, followed by reading Saoirse’s Person of the Week book. Then we bundled up and headed outside for second recess. When we came back in it was time for a special popcorn snack and short movie of, The Cat in The Hat. Our day came to a close with free choice while friends were picked up by their families.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
