Ocean room Newsletter September 24th – 28th, 2018

Hello, Pre-K families!

We have had a blast this week talking all about community workers and practicing the letter Bb.  We even had the chance to meet a few workers in our community. Next week we will learn about the five senses and the letter of the week will be Cc. Please help your child choose something that begins with letter Cc for share.

Thanks and Reminders

*Please keep discussions regarding playdates and birthday parties outside of the classroom to avoid any feelings of exclusion.

*Thank you to Reese Marr’s family for bringing the delicious and nutritious snack! Next week Adrian’s family will provide snack.

*Snack Guidelines:  Families are to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for 17 children for the week. Please remember we are a nut-free program.

Monday we read, Helpers in My Community and generated a list of the different kinds of workers that we see around our own community. At gym time, the kids played “Cookie Monster” and “Band-aid Tag.” We practiced the sounds, sign language and writing letter Bb. For Music and Movement, we listened and moved to, “Animal Action” and played “Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?”

Tuesday morning, we read, Library Lilly and then had the pleasure of meeting Miss Nina! She is the Albina County librarian and will be visiting monthly to read stories to both Pre-K classes. She read, How to Knit a Monster, We Don’t Eat Our Classmates and Sea Creatures from the Sky. If your child is interested in getting a library card, the forms are near the sign-in book to fill out and leave for Miss Nina. In the afternoon everyone made super cute bookmarks. For Music and Movement, we sang along to, “No More Pie” and “Apples and Bananas.”

Wednesday we learned how to use a variety of stamps and different colored ink pads at the art table and also had the opportunity to make even more art at the crayon melting station. The kids did a great job of being careful while using it. We read, People That Help and Jobs People Do. For Music and Movement, we played, Bug Under the Rug and danced to two songs: “Hop and Stop” and “Scat Like That.”  In the gym, the kids had a blast on an obstacle course with Teacher Mike.

Thursday morning, we watched a book on video called, Curious George Goes to the Fire Station. Then we made our way to the front of the school to meet our local firefighters! Students had the chance to explore the fire engine, learn about safety and even got to take a fire hat home with them. We also celebrated Teddy’s birthday (officially on Friday). Each student colored a beautiful birthday page for him while he put stickers on his crown. At the end of the day we presented him with his book and sang, Happy Birthday to him! We also read, Squish the Rabbit. For Music and Movement, we played, “Bug Under the Rug” and sang along to, “Peanut Butter & Jelly.”

Friday we had a special visit from Magical Mir! He wanted to reward both Pre-K classes with a magic show because he has been so impressed with all of the students. We also finished projects from earlier in the week and colored firefighter and fire truck pages. During gym time with Teacher Mike the kids played “Garden Tag” and “Broken DVD.” For Music and Movement, we did “The Freeze Dance,” “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and played “Doggy, Doggy.”

See you all on Monday!
