Summer camp at IED is relaxed and fun, with plenty of time for outside play. Our camp will present an awesome new theme each week that we explore with activities, recipes and games from all over the globe. We will also learn some new songs, dances and play with water on hot summer days!  In addition, children will have time to play in the gym, garden, learn new sports, and make art all summer long.

Activities are designed for Pre-K/Kindergarten aged children ages 4 & 5 (must be 4 years old by June 2019 and toilet trained). Healthy snacks will be offered two times a day. Children are enrolled on a weekly basis. You may register for any week/s. In order to reserve a spot for your child, please register by April 1st, 2019. After that, registrations will be taken on a space available basis.

 

WEEKLY THEMES

 

Week 1. AFRICAN SAFARI June 10-June 14 Summer camp begins! Our campers will travel to Africa and explore its culture through games, food, music and art. We will experiment with dyed cloth, masks and instruments. We will also explore snacks from the Continent like plantain chips and Ethiopian sambusa. On the field, we will be playing ZumZum, Ampe-Ghana and Mbube Mbube.

Week 2. MARY POPPINS June 17-June 21   IED invites you on an exhilarating trip down the IED “chimney”. We will nibble on edible tea cups, play spoonful of sugar on the field, make carousel horses and tulle chimney sweep hats! The fun will never end on this zany adventure. On Friday we will have a scavenger hunt and watch the 2019 Mary Poppins Returns!

Week 3. MO WILLEMS June 24-June 28 Welcome Elephant & Piggie lovers! This week, campers will work on spectacular arts and crafts inspired by the literary works of Mo Willems. Projects will include making clay piggies, fluffy Knuffle bunnies & paper Mache elephants. Our outside time will also follow the theme with games like pigeon shuffle & elephant tag. On Friday we will have a muddy snack with piggie cookies.

 

Week 4. LET’S GO CAMPING  ** July 1-July 3** Week 5 will bring us closer to nature as we study some cool and creepy bugs, build paper fires, make lanterns and go fishing in the classroom! Campers will make s’mores both real and pretend, eat some wormy “dirt” and build tents for their newly adopted fluffy forest buddies.

Week 5.  DRAGON ADVENTURES July 8-July 12 Magical beasts take over Irvington this week!  Our enchanted sunny summer mornings will find us outside playing games like dragon tag and unicorn relay. Later, we will be crafting awesome projects like monster eyes, puppets, magical banners and fire breathing masks. For snack we will make unicorn horns & edible dragon tacos!

 

Week 6.  **FULL**  DIG IT-BONES  July 15 –July 19 Our IED campers will study bones this week to see how things grow & move. We will be making some models of the human body, finger puppets and animal spines. We will dig for bones and make our own fossils as well. Our field games will focus on classics like; SPUD, kickball, relay races and water balloon games. For snack we will prepare fossil cookies and scrumptious volcanos!

 

Week 7. THE POND July 22-July 26 Dive into week 7 as we explore the wonders of a pond. We will look at frogs, ducks & dragonflies. We will play watery outdoor games like belly burst, fill ‘er up and have wet relays races across the field. Later in the day we will create awesome art projects like button bugs and honey slime. On Friday we will bake up some deliciously ducky cupcakes.

Week 8. ISLAND ADVENTURES July 29-August 2. Wahoo! Week 8 is the soggiest, wettest, messiest week of all. Water themed games all morning like turtle tag, belly burst, over under buckets and cup relays!  In the afternoon we create beautiful birds, turtle batiks and shimmering dolphins. For snack we will concoct edible beaches where chocolate teddy bears will be lounging in the sand.

  • Weekly Tuition: $265.00. There is no part-time option.
  • Upon receipt of this registration sheet, IED will send a packet for you to fill out and return
  • All registration paperwork and fees must be completed and returned to IED before a child’s place will be held. Tuition over $500 may be split into 2-4 payments. 1 will be due at time of registration, 1 due by April etc.
  • All tuition is due by April 30th.
  • If you register and pay all tuition before April 1st, you may take an additional $15 off the weekly fee.
  • If you register 5 or more weeks and pay all tuition before April 1st, you may take another $5.00 (total of $20) off the weekly fee.

Please note the following:

 

  • We cannot pro-rate weekly tuition based on attendance.

      Refund Policy: Cancellations must be submitted in writing (mail, e-mail). Each camp registration is held to a $50

      cancellation fee. If you cancel 14 business days or less prior to when your camp week starts, no

amount will be refunded.

  • We cannot refund tuition based on non-attendance.
  • The main activity hours are between 9:30-4:30
  • There is no fee to switch camps if one is available.

We will learn some unusual art techniques, and play with water on hot summer days!  In addition, children will have time to play in the gym, garden, learn team games, and create art all summer long. Activities are designed for 1st through 4th grade.     

Healthy snacks will be offered two times a day. Children are enrolled on a weekly basis. You may register for any week/s. In order to reserve a spot for your child, please register by April 1st, 2019. After that, registrations will be taken on a space available basis.

            WEEKLY THEMES

Week 2. GET SOME PERSPECTIVE June 17-June 21   Our IED artists will be showing campers how to add depth to a drawing, painting or sculpture by using a vanishing point. For crafts we will make 3d ocean scenes, look down at melting snowmen, look up at high rises, and sit on the floor of the ocean gazing at the sky. Outside we will focus on some classic games like SPUD, relays and kickball.

Week 3. MOVING TOYS June 24-June 28 This week campers will create a variety of moving toys and simple animations! Penny spinners, flip books & tumblers to name a few. Some complicated, some simple, all based on basic physics. Outdoor games in the morning will be centered on some “minute to win it” games like chocolate unicorn, face the cookie & Marshmallow head!! End the week with homemade “armpit” fudge in a bag!

 

Week 4.  BENDING METAL July 1-July 3  Week 4 at IED is focused on wire craft art including bead work, kinetic sculpture, garden art and flexible “stained glass” pieces. Kids will use various types of wire to create their work combined with other media like paper and clay. Outside we will be playing a variety of fast paced team games on the field like flag tag, balloon stomp, kickball and soccer. Please note this week is 3 days of camp.

                

Week 5. DRAGONS/RPG July 8-July 12  Our magical week begins outdoors with games like wizard tag, hippogriff’s nest, dragon racing and unicorn relay. In the afternoon we will be creating characters for a kid-friendly role playing game, drawing, sculpting and designing t-shirts all based on this creature/character. For snack we will make edible unicorn horns and glitter cupcakes. It will be an enchanted week!

 

Week 6.  DIG IT–BONES July 15 –July 19 Have you ever looked closely at a cow jawbone or wondered how your hand is able to pick things up? This week we look at bones both from the past and present. We will sketch, sculpt and build moving skeletons. Outside we will play egg stomp, bone relay and body scramble. For a special treat this week we will make Calaveras or sugar skulls!

Week 7. BIOSPHERE July 22-August 26 Kids will create their own little ecospheres inside a bottle! Grow a plant, name a snail and bring home a tiny world that will live on a windowsill. Both pretend and real projects involving plants, bugs and aquatic life. Outside games include ocean tag, fetch and cross the stream. For snack we will make some delicious sandy beach cups complete with edible fishies.

Week 8. ISLAND July 29-August 2 Wahoo! Week 8 is the soggiest, wettest & messiest week of all. Water themed games all morning like turtle tag, belly burst, over under buckets and cup relays!  In the afternoon we create beautiful paper flowers, clay fish & turtle batiks. For snack we will concoct edible beaches where chocolate teddy bears will be lounging in the sand. Make sure to pack clothes that can get wet this week.
