Ocean room Newsletter May 28th – 31st, 2019

Hello, Pre-K families!

It’s been a short but busy week in the Ocean room preparing for graduation and reading fun cooking stories and doing awesome cooking projects along the way.  Next week we will focus on Kindergarten readiness!

Thanks and Reminders

*****Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us for the Pre-K graduation! It meant so much to the kiddos!*****

*Please be sure to take home your spare pairs of rain boots under the sign in table as well as any art in the folders.

*Due to extra days added to the school year, we need three days’ worth of snack for the last week of school! Any volunteers??

*If your child is attending Irvington for kindergarten, please register with the front office as enrollment will determine how many teachers and class sizes for next year!

Monday-closed

Tuesday we began the week by introducing Elizabeth as the Person of the Week. Then we read a fun book called, Pancakes for Breakfast which was a perfect title for a book considering our very first cooking project was making pancakes! Everyone had a good sized pancake with butter and syrup along with some fruit for snack that morning and it seemed everyone thoroughly enjoyed them! We also got to work making Person of the Week pages for Elizabeth, drawing beautiful pictures and dictating sweet words about why they like her.

Wednesday we read a story called, Cows in The Kitchen which was a perfect segway into making a dairy delicious treat………. frozen yogurt! Teacher Sarah brought in her ice cream maker and some kids declared it tasted better than real ice cream! They ate this along with a frozen berry medley and Fig Newtons, if they wanted! It was of course a hit to say the very least. In the afternoon we worked on interviews for round two of the Pre-K time capsules that will go in the memory books to compare to their answers, heights and weights from the beginning of the year. We also practiced our songs for graduation.

Thursday morning, we read, Stone Soup and Chicken Soup and Rice and then got to work making homemade macaroni and cheese. A rather decadent version too! No ingredients were spared. We served this gooey, delicious creation along with our lunches at lunchtime and the majority of the kiddos LOVED it. Later we had a surprise Fire Drill and the kids did a great job of exiting quickly and quietly. The whole school evacuated in 1 minute 59 seconds, earning everyone a popsicle party for next week. When we got back we had a very quick rest time before getting up for one last practice before graduation. Then we put our caps on and made our way to the cafeteria. Everyone did a wonderful job and they were so proud of themselves, as they should be!

Friday we had a long free choice followed by a fun story called, The Seven Silly Eaters. Then for morning snack we made peach pie in a cup along with sliced apples and pretzels. The class never minds a snack that involves whipped cream on top! Later in the day we read Elizabeth’s Person of the Week book and presented it to her so she could take it home with her. Then we packed up for the weekend and had a nice, long recess out in the beautiful sunshine.

Gym Time with Teacher Mike:

This week in the gym we played some Kinder themed games like Hallway Tag, Cafeteria Tag, Quiet in the hallway, Raise your hand and more. We also did many of our favorite games like Parachute and Birds Nest so we can play them all once more before our break. Good to see everyone at the Graduation!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
