Irvington Pre-K Newsletter June 3rd – 7th, 2019

Hello, Pre-K families!

We have had a fun filled week in Pre-K reading fun stories, getting ready for kindergarten and enjoying our last full week together. We also earned our 20th star as a class to have a class celebration next Tuesday June, 11th. The class decided upon a dress up party. Please do not wear any STAR WARS, SUPERHEROES or Disney Princess outfits. No weapons of any kind. Please dress appropriately for the weather as the forecast is showing mid 90 degrees that day.

Thanks and Reminders

*Please be sure to take home your spare pairs of rain boots under the sign in table as well as any art in the folders.

*Thank you to River’s family for providing the delicious and nutritious snacks this week! For next week, Vivien’s family has provided some fresh fruits to get us through the added days to the school year! Thank you so much!

Monday we spent the morning working on thank you cards for our reading buddies from Miss Geri’s class. Then we got to work on finishing our self-portraits inside Miss Nina’s goodbye/thank you card. In the afternoon we read a great story called, The Girl Who Thought in Pictures.

Tuesday morning, we had our very last visit from the best librarian in the west, Miss Nina. She brought three great stories as she always does: Hummingbird, Epossumondas and I’m a Baked Potato! Then as we thanked her and presented her with our thank you and goodbye card, she told us that she will be retiring from being a librarian at the Albina County Library! She is also going to be taking a very special sailing trip to Mexico!  We will miss her! She was an awesome librarian who has been visiting the Irvington Pre-K for about a decade! Take care, Miss Nina!

Wednesday was a very special day for the entire school! It was Jelly Bean Field Day! Each year Mr. Barnes, the Irvington school P.E. teacher, puts out a variety of stations to visit throughout the gym as well as the blacktop and soccer field. There are bean bag tosses, bowling, base running, target practice, golfing and much more to visit and try out. Then at the end everyone gets jelly beans as their special prize for participating. Pre-K really enjoyed this event! At the end of the day we passed out their jelly bean prize as well as their Pre-K Memory books that highlighted special projects throughout the school year.

Thursday we had a lengthy free choice while many of us finished our beaded bracelets for our reading buddies from Miss Geri’s class. Throughout the day we also worked on special clay creations, just for fun! Everyone got the same amount of clay to create whatever they wanted! These are currently drying and will come home soon.

Friday morning, we got to view the Kindergarten parade and cheered them along as they pulled their floats by our classroom. Then after morning choices and a tasty snack, we headed to Miss Geri’s class to exchange gifts to each other. Our class handed out our cards and beaded bracelets, while their class provided Pre-K with a fun project they made for us. They were characters from stories made out of egg cartons, along with a sweet note thanking Pre-K for being their reading buddies. Then we got to go around and view a special project their class worked long and hard on. Each student made a specialized project based on an animal of their choosing. They all looked amazing and Pre-K seemed to enjoy the viewing!

I want to use my final blurb to say that I really appreciated spending time in Pre-K with your children this year. We played, we danced, we ran, we jumped and had lots of fun. Also, all of your end of the year gifts were amazing and more than I could ever hope for. I wish all of you a great summer and hopefully we run into each other at school or around Portland sometime. Stay cool this summer!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
