Ocean room Newsletter August 27th – 30th, 2019

Hello, Pre-K families!

We had a wonderful first week of Pre-K getting familiar with the rules, routines and expectations of being in school!  Thank you to all of the families for making the transition so seamless with quick drop-offs to allow the children to settle into the new routine and foster independence.

Thanks and Reminders

There is no School Monday September 2nd.

Thank you to all of the families for coming to the potluck and bringing such delicious savories and treats!

Thank you to Teddy’s family for providing snack this week. Next week Teddy’s family will be providing snack again!

If you have not yet signed up for two weeks of snack, please do so on the sign-up sheet next to the sign-in/sign-out book by the front door of the classroom.

Please bring a family photo with your entire immediate family in it (if you haven’t done so already).

We will start sharing Life In a Bag next week so please bring those items.

Tuesday after settling into some free choice activities and getting familiar with the room, we circled up and did a fun song called, “Higgity Piggity” to help learn the names of our new friends. Then we read a fun story called, If You Take a Mouse To School. We also worked on drawings titled, “I Drew This on my First Day of Pre-K” to help begin decorating the room. We also discussed the first and most important rule of Pre- K which is to be SAFE! And also talked about how teachers are here to help everyone and if you have a question, ask a teacher! Throughout the day we got used to a new call and response called, “Macaroni and Cheese!” Ask your child what they should do when they hear this called out!

Wednesday morning after free choices, we circled up and discussed the importance of cleaning up before moving on to other activities. We also talked about how many people are allowed in each area of the classroom at a time to keep things running smoothly. And finally, we discussed how most things in the classroom are sorted by color, shape or likeness and that everything has a home for when it is time to clean up. Throughout the day we read some fun books: Steve Raised By Wolves, The Kissing Hand and Is Your Buffalo Ready For Kindergarten?

Thursday during our morning choices, we enjoyed making beaded bracelets and necklaces! Some friends made QUITE a few and looked so fancy wearing their new jewelry. We also introduced everyone to the scissors and glue to make fun collages. We discussed the importance of wearing goggles while using any kind of scissors for safety! Throughout the day we also read a fun story called,  Zoe Fleefenbacher Goes to School. The kids really liked this hilarious tale.

Friday morning the students requested more beading! So we made even more necklaces and bracelets and stayed nice and focused the whole time during free choice! This is great for strengthening our hands when it comes to writing! We also worked with watercolor paints and crayons making beautiful pictures. And read a couple stories too throughout the day: Wemberly Worried and The Rock Book. The second book lent itself well to a discussion about collecting flat rocks for the classroom!

Have a great three day weekend, everyone!
